JAHNKOY (Marusya Vadimovna Kazakova) is a multidisciplinary artist and a fashion designer born in Siberia, Russia (USSR), currently based in Brooklyn, New York as a resident of Restoration-Art Center. Through her work the artist aims to restore artisanal craftsmanship and revive global cultural heritage in the contemporary landscape. She sees fashion as a powerful force to unite cultures and raise consciousness about preserving our world traditions. Approaching fashion from a craftivist art practice JAHNKOY’s work creates conversation between design, material, origin and creation within the given cultural, social and economic situation.

 

JAHNKOY holds a BFA in Fashion Design from the British Higher School of Art & Design, Moscow, Graduate Diploma in Fashion from Central Saint Martins, London and a MFA in Fashion Design & Society from Parsons the New School for Design, New York.

JAHNKOY has been selected as a finalist on LVMH Prize, (2017) and listed in Forbes «30 under 30» in Fashion and Style, (2018). She has been supported by CFDA and presented twice on Emerging Designer Platform during NYFMW, (2017, 2018) as well as was a participant in CFDA Elaine’s Gold LaunchPad Program, (2018). The artist created installations at Bergdorf Goodman’s window displays and on the third floor of Men’s department (2017). She has presented her work in SAFMW, Cape Town, (2017) and BRFW, Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro(2018), JAHNKOY showcased in group art exhibition «Wavelength» Vol.1 ,NYC (2017) and Vol.2, Beijing, (2018), held a solo-exhibition and a fashion show at All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts, Moscow, (2018). Fashion Institute of Technology showcased  JAHNKOY’s exhibition «CRAFTING EVOLUTION:10 Years of Fashion Study» which was closed with a Fashion Performance of first ready-to-wear collection «ME$$ENJAH:01» (2019). Show was repeated at Restoration-Art (2019)

Jahnkoy designed project for Puma as a part of Parsons MFA Program and has been supported by Puma since graduation, PUMA x JAHNKOY collaboration collection has been launched in 2019

JAHNKOY (Marusya Vadimovna Kazakova) is an artist and a fashion designer. Originally from Siberia, Russia (USSR), JAHNKOY moved to Moscow to attain her Bachelors in Fashion Design at the British Higher School of Art and Design, she further continued her studies at the Central Saint Martins (London) and then moved to NYC to receive Masters in Fine Arts "Fashion Design and Society" Program at Parsons. The Artist is currently based in NYC, as a resident of Restoration-Art Center (Bed-Stuyv, Brooklyn) . JAHNKOY approaches fashion as a Craftivist Art Practice, through which she aims to restore traditional craftsmanship and revive global cultural heritage in the contemporary landscape. JAHNKOY continues to present her idea of cultural sportswear that blends traditional artisanship with modern technology. Her work is a body of bold, powerful visuals that speak to social and political concerns and commentary of JAHNKOY.
